August Events: Legal Defense Fundraiser, Sewing Foundations, Trans Testimony and More

Hey friends,

Check out what’s happening this month at The Rhizome House!

We hope you’re surviving the summer heat, voting discourse and ongoing pandemic(s?). It would be cool to not have to deal with them… Get plugged into community to fight and thrive together for a survivable future!

Please share widely: grab some at the space to distro in your community <3). Find an up-to-date, text compatible version on our website: https://rhizomehouse.org/event-calendar/

Do you want to have your event at the Rhizome? Shoot us an email with a short pitch and some proposed dates at therhizomehouse@protonmail.com

New event added: Fundraiser and Panel with Defendants and Support Crew for the Boeing 5. Saturday August 10th at 7pm

Join us for an evening of conversation to raise funds to support the legal fight for five activists currently facing charges related to an action that shut down a Boeing plant outside of Columbus earlier this year. We’ll hear stories from defendants, legal volunteers and support workers about the fight, the repression and taking on risk collectively. We hope you’ll join us. If you can’t, you can find their GoFundMe here. [https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-legal-battle-against-boeing]

Cleveland Anarchist Reading Group:
In August, Reading Group will be starting No Spiritual Surrender: Indigenous Anarchy in Defense of the Sacred, by Klee Benally. Benally was a Diné (Navajo) anarchist, volunteer and coordinator with Haul No!, and punk musician originally from Black Mesa. Benally passed away last year, and proceeds from this book will be used to support his surviving family: purchase at (https://detritusbooks.com/products/no-spiritual-surrender-indigenous-anarchy-in-defense-of-the-sacred) or check out our copy from our lending library.
Next meeting: Mon Aug 12th, 6:30-8. We will be discussing the introduction and first chapter.

What we’re thinking about this month:
We’re enjoying the reel about meeting self-doubt and fear with imagination, by Trey from @whatsonemorepothos. [link on “reel:” https://ww w.instagram.com/reel/C7T252SAaqd/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==]

They invite us to reframe our internal narratives, to embrace joy in community and to consider:
What is something (that you really enjoy) that you could teach someone, without having to look up anything about it?
What is a skill, or something that you want to learn, but maybe feel a little bit fearful about being a beginner?
What is one [attribute] that you possess that makes you who you are?

[We want to do more of these interactive reflection and interactive pieces, feel free to DM stuff you think would work well, we’ll credit you if you like!]

Hope to see you around the neighborhood!
With love, rage and solidarity:
The Rhizome House Collective
